Prince William Shares 1st Post Since Kate's Cancer Diagnosis

For the first time since Kate Middleton announced her cancer diagnosis, Prince William broke his social media silence. Today, the Prince of Wales shared an image of professional soccer player Rachel Daly on the couple's official royal Instagram account to commemorate her retirement from England women's national football team, lovingly known as the Lionesses.

The Story included a nod to his favorite soccer (football if you're across the Pond) team, Aston Villa, which is Daly's club team. The post marks the first time either William or Kate have shared anything on the Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account.  

“Thank you for so many unforgettable performances with @Lionesses, @racheldaly3. Plenty more goals for Villa now!,” he wrote before signing off with his signature W.

According to Hello!, William was appointed president of the Football Association in 2006. Since then, he's been a champion of the sport and has been promoting and showing support for the women's game especially. In 2015, he hosted a brunch for the women's team at Kensington Palace after their performance at the FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada.

Kate and William famously attended the 2022 Women's Euro finals and the Prince even attended a practice session with the team.

"I will be keeping an eye on what you're doing and be watching the games with the children, and I'll try to come along where I can to give my support," he said at the time. 

Kate hasn't been active on social media since her announcement back in March. However, the Independent notes that she's become Britain's favorite royal, with a YouGov survey showing that "76% of Britons have a positive view of Kate," with that popularity reaching "across the generations."
